On Seiichi Nishiji san
Seiichi Nishiji leading out reigning World Champion Italian (Maspeis?) in the 1960 World Cup (Seiichi lost this race by a very narrow margin). The Italian ended up taking 5 or 6 consecutive world sprint titles which held until Koichi Nakano broke his record in the '80s on his way to taking 10 world sprint titles.

Un professeur fait 1 300 km en flyke, un vélo volant
Abingdon, Angleterre - John Carver est entré dans le livre Guinness des records en devenant la première personne à voyager en vélo volant de Land's End (Cornouailles) jusqu'à John O'Groats (Écosse).
M. Carver, 37 ans, a atteint une hauteur de 600 mètres et volé à une vitesse constante de 40 km/h durant son voyage à travers l'Angleterre.Son vélo volant, ou "Flyke" (contraction du mot Fly,voler, et Bike, vélo), possède un moteur moins puissant que celui d'une tondeuse à gazon, et le professeur a dû faire de fréquents arrêts dans son périple de 11 jours pour remplir le réservoir. En atterrissant à John O'Groats, John Carver a battu le record du plus long voyage en vélo volant et a récolté plus de 11 000 euros pour une fondation pour la recherche sur le diabète juvénile. "J'ai toujours adoré voler et faire du vélo donc ça a été fantastique de pouvoir combiner les deux et d'accomplir quelque chose qui n'a jamais été fait avant tout en récoltant de l'argent pour une association qui m'est très chère, étant moi-même diabétique" explique M. Carver. Le "flyke", un hybride entre le vélo et l'ULM, possède un toit parachute pour s'envoler et atterrir.

Bakrac, Croatie - Robert Kiserlovski et un de ses partenaires s'entraînaient pour les Jeux Olympiques de 2012. Ils ont reçu une amende de 70 euros car ils ne pédalaient pas assez vite.
Robert Kiserlovski et son collègue se sont fait arrêter par la police croate qui les a accusés de bloquer le trafic routier durant une session d'entraînement. Les policiers ont expliqué que les deux sportifs ne roulaient pas assez vite et qu'ils empêchaient les voitures de les doubler.
Furieux, Robert Kiserlovski a refusé de payer l'amende et a expliqué que sa vitesse moyenne était de 32 km/h : "Nous allions plus vite que beaucoup d'autres voitures. C'est la troisième fois que la police m'arrête." La police croate a refusé de commenter l'incident.

Squirrel pops into a vacation photo, taking the spotlight

If a normal picture is really worth a thousand words, there's no telling the value of one featuring a squirrel, mountains and a couple from Minnesota.
"We knew it was big when you type in 'squirrel' into Google, we come in above Wikipedia," said Melissa Brandts.
Back in May, Melissa and her husband Jackson seized a classic photo opportunity while hiking near Lake Minnewanka in Alberta's Banff National Park.
They set up their camera on some rocks, set the timer and held their remote.
Then the couple, who lives in Watertown, realized they weren't alone.
"This little guy, the little squirrel, had been running around on the rocks," Melissa said. "He must have thought it was a little food dispensary, and so he sort of was running around in the rocks and then ducked down and disappeared. And then all of a sudden, he scampered over and shot up right in front of the camera," Melissa said.
"I was clicking away, and I was hoping we'd get it," Jackson said.
And 'get it' they did.
The Brandts caught the little critter posing in front of the camera, alert and intrigued with what was happening.
The Brandts decided to share their photographic treasure with a wider audience. So Melissa first posted it to her Facebook page, then eventually, sent it to National Geographic.
From there, the picture went "viral" landing on websites throughout the world and appearing on network newscasts.
The squirrel has even earned his own Facebook Fan page where fans have called him, "Nuts, the Squirrel."
Melissa and Jackson haven't joined in the name game, focusing instead on the name of their new baby due in a few weeks.
At this point, Melissa and Jackson don't expect to turn a profit from their priceless picture, but they say they do enjoy the thought they're sharing their joy with so many others.
"It was such a fun moment for us, and now we just love that everyone else thinks it's so fun," Melissa said.

Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman shows off his unique bike design which he not only says will be common in 20 years but is also theft-proof and features puncture-free tires. The futuristic-looking creation boasts a complete carbon fiber body with a built-in locking anti-theft mechanism which can only be activated by the touch of the bike owner’s fingerprints. Addition features include a calorie monitoring system, battery-powered assistance, and aforementioned puncture-free tires that have the ability to self-inflate.
Boardman had this to say:
“It could be built now if there was a will. All the technologies are already there, it’s just that nobody’s put them all together before.”

Suède - Un vélo doré à l'or 24 carats et orné de 600 cristaux est devenu la bicyclette la plus onéreuse du monde après s'être vendu pour 64 000 euros.
Le vélo est fait main et orné de plus de 600 cristaux de Swarovski. Il est également équipé d'une selle moulée en cuir d'un traditionnel sellier pour une touche de nostalgie. Les poignées sont en cuir marron, cousues à la main. Les dix pièces limitées Crystal Edition, recouvertes de feuilles d'or, sont ornées d'un badge en cuir placé à l'avant du vélo.C'est Aurumania, un fabricant suédois, dont le nom signifie "fan de l'or" qui est à l'origine de ces pièces. Le premier vélo a été acheté à Londres, et le propriétaire l'a installé chez lui comme une oeuvre d'art.
Il n’existe que 10 exemplaires de ce vélo Crystal Edition. Recouvert d’or, de cristaux et de cuir, il est le produit d’un fabricant suédois : Aurumania.
