Over at Treehugger, we share a fun video with music by Tatsuro Yamashita, the Japanese singer-songwriter, who wrote a classic hit called Christmas Eve. It was used 1988-1992 for TV commercials: so nostalgic! Also, old JR posters remind us of how hard Japan has worked to make train and bus services popular, thus reducing air pollution, CO2 emissions, and traffic congestion. Over at Treehugger, others have asked How To Restore The Romance Of Public Transportation. Clearly a big issue for 2009. Reuters has also noted that Japanese women take to train spotting:
“There’s a growing number of girls who like trains. The Internet has made it easier for people to meet others with similar hobbies,” said Chihiro Uchida.
Not only do the fans ride trains, women like Hoshino enjoy reading colorful Japanese train schedules, listening to different engine sounds and looking at carriage interiors.
“Men like trains for the machinery, but girls like cool, cute trains that are painted a certain color,” Hoshino said.
